NoFit state presents
Barricade (with fireworks from pa-Boom!)
The wind is rising on Barricade, a spectacular new open air show about bridging the gaps, overcoming the obstacles and dealing with the disturbances that prevent us from being together and obstruct us from achieving our goals.
An iconic new set structure designed by Dan Potra (Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games Open and Closing Ceremonies, Sydney 2000 Olympics Opening Ceremony, Liverpool 08 European Capital of Culture Opening Ceremonies) sets the scene for a maelstrom of high skill aerial and acrobatic acts, powerful images of creation and destruction, comedy chases and a breath-taking fireshow finale.
The story begins as soon as the circus comes to town, with the building of the Barricade. Ambient characters and impromptu happenings during the lead up to the performance lay the foundations for an inspirational and celebratory circus exploration of the mighty human effort required to overcome the walls, barriers and defences we find, or place, in our path. Through world class circus spectacle, ensemble chaos, pyrotechnics and a brand new live score from the Immortal Orchestra, Barricade invokes a glorious spirit of resistance to empower its people to fight for freedom.
With pre-entertainment from the Barracudas, Barrow Carnival Bands and Paddy Waters, the UK's leading trick cyclist, the show will be followed by a firework display from pa-Boom!
Commissioned by the European network ZEPA, Barricade will be created at Atelier 231 in Sotteville-en-Rouen.
