Friday 23 - Saturday 24 July, 2010.

Carlisle has a theatre for two nights only!

The legendary sinking of the Titanic during an April night in 1912 is transformed by one of Europe's leading outdoor theatre companies, Theatre Titanick (Germany) in the historic grounds of Carlisle Castle.

The story of that fateful night becomes an apocalyptic theatrical inferno with live music, wonderful eccentric characters and stunning fire and water effects. This show has been delighting audiences for years at international festivals. Don't miss it.

"Thousands cheered and applauded as the Titanic sank along the banks of the Allegheny late Friday night.

Families with small kids in tow, skateboard-toting hipsters and dedicated observers of the local arts and performance scene created an expressive, celebratory crowd...
A prolonged blast of foghorn, an eruption of flames and the clang of metal against metal signaled the start, as the Titanic slowly assembled itself on deck and began to take on passengers. For 70 minutes of performance, sparks flew, fireworks fizzed into the black night, and water spurted to enthusiastic cheers and applause. The crowd delighted as food was flung by rich passengers behaving badly and a lone stoker struggled to stem the flow of water below.

It ended spectacularly with a confusion of sparks, smashed plates, water, toppled decks, flames, steam and thoroughly sodden performers.

As the crowd melted into the night, one enthusiastic youngster summed it up: "That was cool!" Pittsburgh Live

Pre-show from 9pm, enjoy a bar and live music from leading Scottish street band, Orkestra del Sol. Flamboyant, brassy and irresistibly euphoric- their live shows are fast gaining them notoriety as Scotland's answer to the celebratory wedding bands of Eastern Europe. Blending the best of brass with the swinging sounds of New Orleans, the rolling rhythms of the Middle East or the bouncing beats of UK ska, they pack a punch and make mincemeat of musical categories.

"Magnificent" The Independent

"The genius of the Orkestra is the way they hide serious musicianship inside tongue-in-cheek humour. It's a winning combination" The Scotsman
