Lakes Alive Whitehaven
Saturday 29 - Sunday 30 May, 2010
Following the success of the crane based-aerial show in Whitehaven last year, Lakes Alive return to the town for two days over the late May bank holiday weekend with a completely different event - a two day harbour-based festival.
On Saturday the festival kicks off with Adrift, the world premiere of a brand new musical show from Cumbrian artist Dan Fox, followed by a spectacular procession from Spanish company Sarruga, with their show Peixos. This parade takes the audience on a journey to the depths of the ocean, as giant carnival-style sculptures of fish, sharks, jelly fish and other colourful sea creatures swim amongst the crowds, above the heads of the audiences, acting out their stories and watery lives. Accompanied by music and light, it's a magical and memorable event for the whole family and has proved an audience favourite at festivals all around the world.
On Sunday, the harbour becomes home to a street theatre festival, where a variety of performances from across the UK and beyond entertain you with dance, comedy, circus, clowning and much more throughout the day.
Then, on Sunday evening, the artists from the previous evening return for a repeat of their performances one last time before heading back out into the waves.
Please note the town's multi-story car park will remain open until 11.30pm each evening.
