A continuous succession of live music and comedy fills the gardens. Headliner on Saturday is Hank Wangford & the Lost Cowboys, headliners on Sunday include Tango Siempre & Baked A La Ska.
Saturday programme includes:
Hank Wangford & the Lost Cowboys
If Daniel O'Donnell is the brightly scrubbed face of British country music then Hank Wangford is its guilty conscience, its dark and troubled grubby soul. Hank has picked at the miserable underbelly of country music for twenty eight years, inspiring others like Billy Bragg, The The, The Alabama Three and other alt.country musicians. He has spread the word with his two ground breaking television series, Britain's first on Country music, "Big Big Country" and "The A to Z of C&W" and his books. He appears at Mintfest Rhythms of the World with the Lost Cowboys. www.hankwangford.co.uk
Murphy's Marbles - Celtic at its best
The Marbles are fast and charismatic songwriters and performers with a fantastic live show. Combining fine Celtic music, both traditional and contemporary with a cutting edge, with humour with audience participation they are supreme. Their line-up includes guitars, fiddle, whistle, flute, bass, mandolin, bodhran and harmonica.
Reckless Invention - Break
Turbo Jones scratches and breaks in this one man break-dance sensation. Watch him headspin to NNNNNNNineteen. All his favourite artists grace his decks with Mc Hammer making an appearance, Vanilla Ice keeping it real and Run DMC putting the boot in to Aerosmith. It's lino time!
Sunday programme includes:
Thingamabob & Thingamajig
A Salfordian vaudeville cabaret musical entertainment show. A mish-mash of different musical styles blended with show-tunes for a good-time, sing-along vibe.
Orchestre D.C. Dansette
The newest Deep Cabaret project Orchestre D.C. Dansette is quite simply a dance band. Inspired chiefly by the music of the African continent, from the drive of Congolese soukous and Kenyan benga to the mellower styles of Malian kora or Ethiopian music. Guitar driven but with a jazz-anchored horn section and lyrics taken from the likes of presidential speeches, newspaper reviews and philosophical treatises, this is joyously inauthentic and idiosyncratic dance music!
Kausary
From Trujillo on the North Coast of Peru, now based in the UK, Kausary has a repertoire of traditional Andean and contemporary Latin sounds. Kausary in Quechua (the Andean language) means To Revive. As suggested in their name Kausary promises to revive the Andean culture through the music so that we can feel its universal message.
Tango Siempre
"...a brilliant fusion of classical, tango, jazz and roots" - The Guardian
Since their formation in 1998, Tango Siempre have been widely acclaimed for their innovative and adventurous approach to creating and performing new tango music. Their music breathes new life into Nuevo Tango, combining fiery improvisation, sparkling collective interplay and solid grooves.
Baked A La Ska
Baked A La Ska are fronted by an un-holy trio of singers: Mr Frank "the Skank" (smooth Sinatra vocals), Tommy Robot (MC) and the soft lilt and harmonica magic of Robin Sunflower (vegan). Baked A La Ska feature one of the tightest rhythm sections in Manchester with the "chops to make you drop".
